When you are walking the Camino there is a lot of thinking time.
Making a camino quilt was in my thoughts.
What blocks could I make? What colours could I use?
Lots of abandoned ideas. Lots of fun thinking time.
It took us about 250 hours to walk the Camino Frances.
It took over 300 hours to hand piece and hand sew the quilt.
- The complete quilt
- The Cross of St James
- Stars of the Milky Way. We followed the Milky Way from east to west.
- Red poppies. One of hundreds of different types of wild flowers along The Way.
- Flecha amarillo, the yellow arrow we followed along The way.
- The scallpo shell, symbol of the Camino
- The Cross of the Knights Templar.
- Tau Cross of the Antonine Order, Convento de San Anton
- Two bar cross in monastery at San Juan de Ortega.
- Puente La Reina, Queen’s Bridge
- A tree for all the shade given us by oak, ash, sycamore, eucalyptus, pine, chestnut, and many more.
- All the dozens of hermitages, chapels, churches and cathedrals along The Way had candles
- Castillo de los Templarios. Templar castle in Ponferrada.
- The bell tower of the chapel dedicated to San Nicholas de Bari in the hamlet of St Juan de Ortega
- St Jean Pied de Port, France, where we started on 5th May 2016.
- Santiago de Compostela, where we arrived on 10th June 2016.
- 800 kilometres. The distance we walked.
- Buen Camino. The friendly greeting used all along The Way.
Quite a work of art, very attractive; some of the symbols etc. I understand. Definitely looks like 300 hours of work. Congratulations Barb on a superb quilt. We will now expect one from each major walking trip!!!
